Description
Established in 2018 and funded through a Waterbird Society endowment, the Waterbird Society Research Award encourages significant advances in waterbird biology, ecology, status assessment, and conservation biology. It reflects the Society’s goals of promoting research on waterbirds and their habitats, fostering science-based conservation, and improving communication and education.
The Grants Committee seeks basic research on species not covered by the Society’s other grants; monitoring that improves knowledge of population status, distribution, abundance, or trends; and work that makes a substantial contribution to conservation. Monitoring of data-deficient species or major information gaps in core parts of a species’ range is of particular interest. Research, monitoring, and conservation proposals are assessed on their merits.
