Description
The Wayachi Seed Grant, administered by the American College of Nurse-Midwives Foundation (The Midwife Foundation), provides financial support to midwives of color, student midwives of color, and BIPOC-led organizations or groups. Its primary goal is to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in midwifery by supporting projects that improve recruitment, retention, and advancement of people of color in the profession, foster educational success, create leadership and mentorship opportunities, and promote efforts to eliminate disparities in maternal and child health. The grant is inspired by the Indigenous Chahta word "Wayachi," meaning origin or beginning, and honors the legacy of Black, Indigenous, and Curandera-Parteras midwives whose work has shaped U.S. midwifery.
