Description
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s State Energy Office administers the Weatherization Assistance Program with local weatherization agencies. Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and additional state and federal resources, it provides income-eligible households with home energy assessments and improvements intended to lower utility costs, improve comfort and address health and safety concerns. Work may include insulation, air sealing, efficient lighting, heating and cooling system improvements, and minor safety repairs.
The program also educates households about energy efficiency and safety and supports training and jobs in the weatherization workforce. Additional Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding is intended to expand services, improve program efficiency and support weatherization of multifamily buildings.
