Description
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality administers the Weatherization Assistance Program through its State Energy Office and local weatherization agencies. The program provides free home energy assessments and weatherization services to income-eligible North Carolinians, helping households reduce energy use and utility bills while improving comfort, health, and safety. Work may include insulation, efficient lighting, air sealing, heating and cooling improvements, and minor health and safety repairs.
The program emphasizes energy conservation rather than home rehabilitation or emergency assistance. It also educates households about energy efficiency and safety. Additional Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding supports expanded weatherization, improvements to program efficiency, workforce training and growth, and weatherization of multifamily buildings.
