Description
Virginia’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) administers Weatherization Deferral Repair through its Energy Efficiency and Housing Rehabilitation office and the state’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) subgrantee network. The program uses Housing Innovations of Energy Efficiency funding to repair conditions that prevent an eligible home or multifamily unit from receiving WAP services. The goal is to make the property “weatherization-ready,” so energy-efficiency and health-and-safety work can follow.
Eligible work includes repairs addressing roof leaks, minor structural problems, moisture or biological contaminants, electrical hazards, and plumbing problems. Certain heating and cooling work, health-and-safety measures, and repairs contingent on eligible work may also qualify. WDR is not a general home rehabilitation program.
