Key Information: Every participating applicant must qualify for funding from their respective national or regional funding agency.
The Austrian Science Fund (FWF), in cooperation with the German Research Foundation (DFG), supports cross-border Principal Investigator Projects through Weave. The program is open to all disciplines and funds closely integrated scientific work in which Austrian, German, and optionally third-country partners make substantial contributions to a shared project. International cooperation must create added scientific value, rather than simply bring separate research activities together.
Weave links existing national and regional funding programs through a lead-agency procedure. Applicants jointly prepare a proposal, choose a coordinating applicant, and select a lead agency to conduct a single evaluation. Each participating funding organization finances its own national or regional project part. Austrian applications follow the FWF Principal Investigator Projects or Clinical Research requirements, while the lead agency’s rules govern proposal preparation and review.
