Description
Wellcome Accelerator Awards provide flexible support for early- and mid-career researchers of Black, Bangladeshi and Pakistani heritage in the UK. The scheme addresses underrepresentation in research funding and higher rates of career attrition, helping researchers build skills, experience and professional profiles for their next career stage within academia.
Funding can support novel research ideas, pilot or proof-of-concept studies, preliminary data, research skills training, writing publications or funding applications, research visits, secondments, and collaborative networks or conferences. Research activities must align with Wellcome’s Discovery Research remit. Research-adjacent activities must relate to human life, health or wellbeing, or support a research career in those areas. The intended outcomes include stronger prospects for research funding, promotion, positions and recognition, alongside contributions to a positive research culture.
