The Western Society of Malacologists (WSM) Student Grant supports student research in malacology as part of the society’s commitment to the continued study of mollusks. It funds thesis, dissertation, and research projects focused primarily on marine, terrestrial, or freshwater mollusks in western North America.
Supported subjects include systematics, biology, ecology, physiology, biochemistry, and paleontology. Projects examining cultural relationships, resource sustainability, or conservation efforts are also appropriate. The grant provides support for actual research costs, helping students carry out work already in progress or beginning in the next academic year. WSM administers its competitive research grants through an Academic Grants Committee comprising three professional malacologists.
