Description
The Wildlife Habitat Improvement Program (WHIP) is an annual, state-funded opportunity for private landowners in Oklahoma to receive financial and technical assistance for projects that restore, enhance, or protect wildlife habitat. Administered by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC), the program provides partial reimbursement for approved habitat improvement activities such as timber thinning, native grass planting, cedar removal, firebreak installation, and wetland creation. Each project is developed in partnership with an ODWC Private Lands Biologist, who ensures that the habitat improvements are effective and aligned with wildlife conservation goals. Successful applicants must commit to maintaining the improved habitat for a decade following project completion.
