Description
The Will Eisner Graphic Novel Innovation Grant supports the initiation of a library-generated graphic novel service, program, or initiative. Administered by the American Library Association’s Graphic Novels and Comics Round Table (GNCRT), it promotes awareness of graphic literature, sequential art, and comics among library patrons and local communities. One Innovation Grant will be awarded in the 2027 cycle.
The grant is intended for libraries not currently offering graphic novel programming or undertaking large-scale graphic novel collection development. A library with a small collection could propose creator visits, a comics group, or a new comics convention. Innovation is judged within the applicant’s own library and community, rather than against all libraries. Projects should connect library objectives with community impact, encourage lifelong reading and education, and reflect Will Eisner’s legacy as an innovator and creator. Manga qualify as graphic novels.
