Description
The Wilmer Souder Award is part of the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) Distinguished Scientist Awards. It recognizes scientific achievement of outstanding quality in dental materials research that has advanced, or may reasonably be expected to significantly advance, dental service to the public. The award is intended as the highest honor in dental materials research for scientists whose work brings about outstanding advances in dental health.
Initiated in 1955, it is the oldest IADR Science Award. It honors Dr. Wilmer Souder, who motivated the establishment of the Dental Section at the National Bureau of Standards, now the National Institute of Standards and Technology. An endowment from the IADR Dental Materials Group supports the award, which perpetuates Souder’s scientific ideals and encourages interest in dental materials research.
