Description
Wisconsin Assessment Monies (WAM) is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Remediation and Redevelopment Program using U.S. Environmental Protection Agency brownfield assessment funding. It supports investigations of Wisconsin properties where known or potential contamination complicates redevelopment or reuse. Supported work may include Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, site investigations, and remedial action planning for properties affected by petroleum or hazardous substances.
WAM delivers assistance through contractor services awards and community-managed subgrants. For contractor services awards, DNR assigns a contractor to perform assessment activities; participating properties are generally less than 10 acres. Community-managed subgrantees select a qualified environmental professional and oversee the work. Project selection considers redevelopment objectives, community support, financial need, and potential economic, health, and livability benefits.
