Description
Writer in Residence is a biennial grant administered by the Idaho Commission on the Arts, described as Idaho’s highest literary recognition and largest financial award for a writer. The two-year appointment pairs recognition of literary achievement with a public role encouraging interaction with, and appreciation for, excellence in literature throughout Idaho. The position is open to writers of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction.
The appointed writer connects with Idaho residents through readings, craft workshops, presentations, events, or projects. Outreach emphasizes underserved communities, defined as communities lacking access to arts programs because of geography, economic conditions, ethnic background, or disability. Anonymous applications are reviewed by out-of-state experts, with literary excellence carrying the greatest weight in selection.
