The Wyeth Fellowship is administered by the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, the National Gallery of Art’s research institute. It supports the advancement and completion of a doctoral dissertation concerning the art of the United States, including Native and pre-Revolutionary America. One fellowship is awarded annually through the Center’s predoctoral dissertation fellowship program, which supports graduate research in the history, theory, and criticism of the visual arts.
The fellowship combines a first year of dissertation research in the United States or abroad with a second year in residence at the Center to complete the dissertation. During residency, fellows participate in lectures, colloquia, and discussions and maintain regular contact with the Center’s named professors and other fellows.
