The New Mexico Youth Conservation Corps (YCC), administered through the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, funds public projects that conserve natural resources and deliver community benefits of lasting value. Sponsors employ young people while providing training and career development. Projects must produce specific, identifiable improvements or services that existing funds would not accomplish, rather than duplicate routine services or functions.
Supported work includes conserving species, forests, refuges, rangelands and waters; improving access to parks, greenways, historic sites, libraries, museums, zoos and recreation facilities; and reinforcing the “keep New Mexico true” campaign. Projects may also provide emergency assistance, disaster relief and recovery, improve disaster preparedness or energy efficiency, restore urban areas, and renovate community facilities, including those serving elderly or indigent people.
