AO North America’s Young Investigator Research Development Award supports orthopedic trauma research during the transition from fellowship to the first year of post-fellowship practice. Administered through AO Trauma North America, the award helps fellows develop research activity that continues as they begin their careers in practice.
Fellows may develop their own research project or undertake a discrete component of a larger research endeavor led by an established investigator. Support spans the fellowship year and early practice, encompassing research work, meetings, and statistical support. Recent funded projects have explored fracture-related infection prevention and injury-associated anemia management, illustrating the program’s support for research aimed at improving orthopedic trauma patient outcomes.
