Description
The Arizona Commission on the Arts funds sequential, hands-on arts learning that develops young people’s artistic skills, processes, and creativity. Projects take place before or after school or during school holidays and breaks. They may involve dance, literary arts, media arts, music, theatre, traditional and folk arts, visual arts, or other artistic and cultural disciplines.
The program emphasizes active creative expression in safe, nurturing environments rather than passive exposure to the arts. Projects should honor young people’s voices and perspectives, draw on community assets, and give learners a role in project development and implementation. Arts venues, community centers, schools, and other youth-oriented settings can host activities. Projects need well-defined objectives, outcomes, and evaluation methods relevant to their learners.
