Description
Youth Grantmakers at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint supports programs benefiting Genesee County youth. Its four Youth Advisory Committees—Clio, Countywide, Grand Blanc, and South Lakes—bring together students from local high schools to review funding requests and recommend grants. The program’s mission is to empower young people, involve them in their community, and teach them about philanthropy while they serve as stewards of charitable resources.
Committee members meet monthly during the school year, visit local organizations, participate in community service projects, and learn about community needs. These activities connect their grantmaking responsibilities with direct experience of the organizations and communities they serve. The foundation’s committees were established in 1992 and form part of a statewide network of youth engaged in philanthropy.
