Key Information: CWC does not accept unsolicited funding requests; researchers must respond to its annual call.
The California Walnut Commission (CWC) supports health and nutrition research through grants and the provision of walnuts. Its Global Health and Nutrition Research Program spans early exploratory pre-clinical research, human observational and epidemiological studies, and clinical interventions. Research priorities are developed in consultation with CWC’s Scientific Advisory Board to build high-quality evidence about the effects of walnut consumption across the lifespan.
Supported research has examined heart and cognitive health, cancer, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, gut health, body weight and composition, reproductive and bone health, nutrient and bioactive composition, food modeling, and research methodology. The program emphasizes scientific integrity, transparent engagement, and collaboration. Researchers retain control of study design and research, and completed studies must be submitted for publication regardless of outcomes.
