Description
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) administers competitive implementation grants for food and beverage manufacturing facilities and food system organic waste processors. Funding supports capital expenditures that improve operational efficiency, lower operating costs, and reduce greenhouse gases, criteria air pollutants, hazardous air pollutants, or waste. The program aims to keep Minnesota’s food and beverage industry competitive, operational, and located in the state.
Supported approaches include equipment electrification, boiler upgrades, industrial heat pumps, renewable energy and storage, low-carbon fuels, smart energy systems, and building efficiency improvements. Waste-focused projects may include anaerobic digestion, food waste recovery and upcycling, biochar production, carbon management, combined heat and power, and waste heat recovery. The program is part of Minnesota Climate-Smart Food Systems, funded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants program.
