Description
The ECCO-IBUS Research Grant is jointly run by the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO) and the International Bowel Ultrasound Group (IBUS). It supports member investigators conducting clinical research on the utility of intestinal ultrasound in assessing patients with inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
The programme aims to strengthen the scientific evidence supporting intestinal ultrasound and increase its acceptance as a cost-effective, well-tolerated and repeatable monitoring tool. Its focus reflects treatment targets extending beyond symptom control to healing visible through cross-sectional imaging. Funded work has explored monitoring inflammation and treatment response, assessing inflammation and fibrosis in stricturing Crohn’s disease, and transperineal ultrasound in proctitis and perianal disease.
