Description
The Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute at Harvard University supports faculty research that brings together scholars across fields and regions around work related to South Asia. The 2027–28 program prioritizes interdisciplinary research and connections between Harvard scholars and researchers in South Asia. A limited funding pool is available through the Institute’s Cambridge and India offices, with proposals selected on a highly competitive basis.
Funding supports exploratory work developing new research ideas and advanced projects moving ongoing research toward defined outcomes, such as publications, policy recommendations, or course curricula. The Institute particularly encourages proposals on South Asian rivers and river systems through its Living with Rivers initiative. Priority also goes to projects with clear pathways to practical application and innovative proposals with potentially transformative effects over time.
