Description
Established in 1996, the Germany/Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme is jointly run by the Research Grants Council (RGC) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It provides one-year or two-year travel grants to support scholarly collaboration between individual researchers in Hong Kong and Germany. The scheme prioritizes research quality, complementary expertise, expected benefits, and prospects for sustained collaboration.
Developing young research talent is a central goal. From the 2026/27 exercise, supported projects are expected to include research postgraduate (RPg) students. Hong Kong PIs should use RGC support for students’ research visits to partner institutions, enabling overseas training and experience. Assessment includes the training opportunities offered to young researchers and RPg students through the exchanges.
