Description
The American Chemical Society’s Local Section Sustainability Programming Grant supports events and educational programming that further discussion of sustainability within the chemical enterprise. The ACS Committee on Environment and Sustainability runs the program in partnership with the Local Section Activities Committee. Supported formats include speakers at local section meetings, Science Cafés, workshops, educational programs, community events, and other innovative programming concepts.
The program advances ACS Strategic Plan Goals #2 and #4 by encouraging scientific professionals to address global challenges through environmentally sustainable solutions. Its definition of sustainability encompasses today’s environmental, human health, economic, and societal needs without compromising future generations’ progress and success. Highlighted challenges include energy, food for a growing population, and clean drinking water, with chemistry playing a vital role in each.
