    Description

FDA’s Human Foods Program administers this cooperative agreement to help state and territory Produce Safety Programs build and maintain regulatory programs within a national Integrated Food Safety System. The program advances implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act’s Produce Safety Rule (21 CFR Part 112), which establishes minimum standards for growing, harvesting, packing, and holding fresh produce for human consumption.

Funding supports program administration, farm inventory and inspections, outreach and technical assistance, compliance and enforcement, and produce-related incident response. Priorities include program quality, national consistency, industry education, coordination across government agencies, and high rates of compliance with the Produce Safety Rule. Applicants choose a program framework, inspection authority, and data-reporting approach. As a cooperative agreement, the program involves substantial federal scientific or programmatic participation.
