    Description

The Science History Institute’s postdoctoral research fellowships provide twelve months for full-time research and writing in residence in Philadelphia. Run through the Beckman Center for the History of Chemistry, the program supports sustained scholarly work drawing on the Institute’s library, archival, and museum collections. These holdings focus on chemistry, chemical engineering, and the modern life sciences, spanning the fifteenth century to the present.

Applicants need not identify as historians of chemistry: the relevance of the collections to the proposed project is central. Previous fellows have worked in environmental, business, labor, and art history, as well as science and technology studies. Fellows join the Beckman Center’s scholarly community through writing workshops, lectures, and regular meetings while pursuing their individual research goals.
