The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture administers the program through the Pennsylvania Wine Marketing and Research Program Board. Money collected from wine producers under the Agricultural Commodity Marketing Act is reserved for wine production marketing and research. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board may also provide funding for projects that increase Pennsylvania wine production or advance promotion, marketing, and research.
The program’s interests include spotted lanternfly and spotted wing drosophila, grapevine leafroll viruses, under-trellis groundcover, tannin extraction, and characterization of Accentuated Cut Edges. It also encompasses marketing education and professional development for the Pennsylvania wine industry and statewide Pennsylvania Wine Land promotions.
