About American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is one of the largest nongovernmental funders of cancer research in the United States, having invested billions in studies since its extramural grants program began in 1946. Its mission is to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, patient support, and a sustained commitment to research.

ACS funds investigators at every career stage across basic, translational, clinical, and population research, as well as work in cancer health equity and health services. Research Scholar Grants support independent investigators, while fellowships and mentored awards help early-career scientists build their own programs.

Grants are awarded through a competitive, peer-reviewed process evaluated by volunteer scientific committees. Researchers, clinicians, and trainees can find current American Cancer Society funding opportunities and deadlines on Atom.
