About American Council of Learned Societies

The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is a private nonprofit federation of scholarly organizations and a leading supporter of research in the humanities and related social sciences. It works to advance humanistic knowledge and to support the scholars who create it.

ACLS funds scholars through fellowships and research awards that support individual research, writing, and the development of scholarly careers across the humanities and interpretive social sciences. Its programs reach scholars at many career stages and increasingly support diverse fields and approaches.

Awards are made through competitive peer review, with eligibility defined per program. Scholars and researchers can find current ACLS opportunities and deadlines on Atom.
