Florida Department of Environmental Protection

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) is the state of Florida's lead agency for environmental management and stewardship, responsible for protecting the state's air, water, land and natural resources. It regulates and manages programs spanning water quality and restoration, coastal and resilience protection, air quality, waste management and cleanup, and the state park system. FDEP administers a wide range of grants, loans and cost-share programs — organized across its divisions — that fund projects benefiting the environment and local communities. These include water restoration grants (springs, nonpoint source, water quality improvement), resilience and coastal protection grants (Resilient Florida, beach management, coral reef restoration, Clean Vessel Act), air quality funding (Volkswagen settlement, DERA), land and recreation grants (Florida Communities Trust, Florida Recreation Development Assistance, Land and Water Conservation Fund, Recreational Trails), and waste management grants (household hazardous waste, brownfields). Eligible applicants are typically local governments, special districts, nonprofit organizations, and in some programs academic institutions and private entities.
