Fulbright Australia is a non-profit organization sponsored by the U.S. and Australian governments, institutional and business partners, private bequests, and endowments. The Fulbright Program is the flagship foreign exchange scholarship program of the United States of America, established in 1946 by Senator J. William Fulbright. Its primary aim is to increase binational research collaboration, cultural understanding, and exchange of ideas between countries. Operating in over 160 countries, the program has supported more than 370,000 students, academics, and professionals in studying, teaching, or conducting research. Fulbright Australia specifically promotes educational and cultural exchange between Australia and the United States to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen bilateral relations.
