The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) is one of Illinois' largest state agencies, created in 1997 to provide residents with streamlined access to integrated services. The agency focuses on supporting individuals striving for economic independence and those facing multiple challenges to self-sufficiency. With more than 13,000 employees, IDHS offers a wide range of services including food assistance, financial assistance, recovery support, medical services, mental health support, rehabilitation, child care, shelter/housing, and services for developmental disabilities.
