Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is the state agency responsible for protecting, restoring, and promoting the state's natural resources and environment, including its air, water, land, forests, fisheries, agriculture, and outdoor recreation. It regulates environmental quality and manages state parks, management areas, and conservation programs. DEM administers a broad portfolio of grant and financial-assistance programs across its bureaus and offices. These include the Climate Resilience Fund; agriculture and forestry grants (Farm Energy, Farmland Preservation, Local Agriculture and Seafood Act (LASA), Specialty Crop Block Grants, Urban and Community Forestry, Tree Equity RI); GreenSpace open space, outdoor recreation, and recreational trails grants; brownfields assessment and cleanup programs; Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) funding; water-resources grants such as Nonpoint Source Implementation and marine pump-out funding; and more.
