Research profile

Your research profile is how Atom understands you as a researcher: your positions, degrees, grants and awards, publications, and background, gathered into one place. Atom builds it for you automatically when you join, so it is working from day one. Together with your research interests, it drives the two things that matter most: how closely grants are matched to your work, and whether Atom can tell you are eligible before you apply.

It builds itself

You do not need to create your research profile. When you join, Atom generates it for you automatically: it searches the web for your work, including your positions, education, grants, and publications, and drafts a structured profile with a summary, your grants and awards, current position, career timeline, and degrees.

Everything is editable, so you can refine any part by hand. If your profile is ever empty or you want to rebuild it from scratch, open it and select Generate with Atom AI.

Improve it by uploading documents

The fastest way to make your profile complete is to hand Atom a document. Select Upload PDF on your profile, and Atom reads the file and merges the details into your profile, filling in history and awards you might not add by hand. You can do the same on your research interests, where an upload updates the interests that drive your recommendations.

Some documents work especially well:

  • Your CV or resume covers your positions, degrees, awards, and career timeline in one file.
  • A research statement gives Atom a clear summary of what you work on.
  • A recent paper or its abstract captures the topics and methods behind your best matches.
  • Grant award notices fill in your funding history.

Uploads are read as PDFs, so save your CV, statement, or paper as a PDF before you add it.

Why it matters

  • Sharper recommendations. Your research interests are compared against every opportunity, so the more Atom knows about your work, the more relevant your For You dashboard.
  • Accurate eligibility. Atom reads your profile to judge whether you qualify for a grant, weighing details like your position, degrees, and background against the solicitation's requirements.
  • Easier collaboration. A complete profile helps teammates and research offices understand your work when they build proposals.

Revisit your profile as your work evolves, and re-upload a fresh CV or paper whenever there is something new to add.
